RRB NTPC Typing Test — Complete Guide + Interactive Practice
Clear, visual rules, formula for evaluation, quick tips and a small practice widget that follows the same evaluation logic used in the official RRB typing skill test.
Language: English / Hindi
Duration: 10 minutes (official)
Minimum: 30 WPM (English), 25 WPM (Hindi)
Quick Checklist
10 min test taken on PC (no spell-check or external editors).
Must type at least 300 words (English) or 250 words (Hindi) during the 10 minutes to be evaluated.
Practice minute + 30s break may be provided before the real test.
Official rules — explained (short)
The test is qualifying in nature. It checks speed & basic accuracy required for typist posts.
Duration is 10 minutes. Candidates who finish the passage can retype it from the beginning within this time.
Counting: one word = 5 keystrokes (standard). The official formula deducts mistakes heavily (see formula section).
Minimum words typed to be considered: 300 (English) / 250 (Hindi). Failing to reach the minimum will disqualify.
Editing tools/spell-check are not allowed. Only plain typing on the provided editor is permitted.
How speed is calculated (official-style)
Total words typed = total keystrokes ÷ 5 (standard assumption).
A small percentage of mistakes (commonly 5%) may be ignored as per some RRB instructions. After ignoring, final mistakes are counted.
Evaluation formula used by RRB documents (example):
Typing Speed (WPM) = (Total words typed - (Final mistakes × 10)) / Time (minutes)
Minimum required speed: 30 WPM (English) and 25 WPM (Hindi). Achieve this to qualify the TST.
Important: Official notices from Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) provide the source of truth. This page presents the rules in a clear format and implements the same evaluation formula in the practice widget below, but always check the RRB admit card / notice for any updates before your test.
Top tips to pass
Practice 10-minute runs with real passages — simulate test environment (no copy/paste).
Work on accuracy first — mistakes are heavily penalised in the formula.
If you finish the passage early, retype it (official guidance allows retyping to increase word count).
Familiarize yourself with Kruti Dev or Mangal fonts if you opt for Hindi typing.
